STEREOTYPED BEHAVIOR CAUSED BY PDI AT WORK

The Power distribution index describes a society’s levels of inequality and how these are endorsed by followers and leaders. The less powerful members accept and expect that power is distributed unequally.

Low power distribution index:

  • Decentralized/ flat hierarchy
  • Percentage of management low
  • Small salary difference
  • High qualification also on low hierarchies
  • Presents own opinion to others independent of status

High power distribution index:

  • Central decision making/ steep hierarchy
  • Percentage of managers high
  • Large difference in salaries
  • High status of white collar jobs
  • Fear to contradict superior
  • Tight control considered right
